Emory is an effeminate 11-year-old boy who lives on a farm with his chain smoking Nanna and his only friend, a depressed chicken about to be processed. Nanna wishes Emory would get his head out of the clouds, stop choreographing ribbon stick dance numbers, and be more like Elliot, the boy down the road with a penchant for burning things. But Emory and Elliot have a relationship — just not one Nanna would expect or approve of. With absurd, poignant dialog and brutal characterizations, MilkMilkLemonade is a bitterly funny exploration of gender, sexuality, life, death and the human body.

MilkMilkLemonade All Over.

Hi, Youngblood. I hope you're having a great summer. I'm busy planning my gay wedding, writing my next play, going to Fire Island, getting new tattoos and TOTALLY freaking out that my play, "MilkMilkLemonade" has just extended a second time in Los Angeles, just opened in Berkeley, is opening in Austin and starts rehearsals this week for it's second New York production.

As Nikole Beckwith would say, "BOOM!"

Los Angeles

The Los Angeles production of MilkMilkLemonade just extended and the show has been moved from their late night slot to their prime time slot. If you're in Los Angeles, please check out this fantastic production by Rogue Machine.

Impact's production in Berkeley just opened to a rave review and mucho buzz. A little birdie (I have spies) told me this production was absolutely breathtaking. Go see it if you're in the area!

Austin

You can get a sneak peak of the Texas premiere at the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival tomorrow, and then the show opens on September 9th. (I'm really intrigued by this production because it's the first time Linda the Chicken is being played by a man. The stage directions say to cast across gender, race, age and body type and I find it encouraging that people are. It actually reads, "Don't be a pussy- BE BOLD.") Thanks, Shrewd Productions!

Yes, you know it. The original cast of MilkMilkLemonade is being brought together for a brand sparkling new production, now directed by Jose Zaya, at The Astoria Performing Arts Center. It's going to be stunning. Info to come...

Youngblood on The Road: Ft. Lauderdale

I traveled down to Ft. Lauderdale to see a production of my play, MilkMilkLemonade. It was a weird and thrilling experience. The theater, Empire Stage, was just my style. It was down by the railroad tracks and "Deceptacon" by Le Tigre was blasting as I pulled up in my rental car.

The show itself was so different than the New York production, but really, really good. I was pleased to see that they had found things we hadn't discovered in the play. I had a wonderful time and I thank director Nicole Stodard and my wonderful Florida cast.



It makes me feel bad for hating Florida so much, because you know what? South Florida is AWESOME. I lived in Northern Florida when I was a kid which should really just be Georgia or Alabama or whatever (sorry, Lucy!) Central Florida, where my gay fiance is from, is the pits. But seriously, it's really, really beautiful in Southern Florida and the people are gorgeous and sophisticated. Nicole was nice enough to put us up in a gorgeous boutique hotel, Villa Venice, which also happened to be all gay and clothing optional. Plus, complimentary mai tais by the pool all day long. We strutted around all day like the leathery old Florida queens we were meant to be. Thanks, Nicole!

Then we went to Orlando and I got gay bashed at a Chick-Fil-A and then got a stomach virus. But it was worth it. You win some, you lose some. I still have Ft. Lauderdale!
